Endoscopic third ventriculostomy is a surgical treatment used to treat obstructive or non-communicating hydrocephalus in children and adults. The most frequent therapy for hydrocephalus is shunting, which involves passing the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) via a thin silicone tube to a separate bodily cavity for reabsorption. Shunts are life-saving devices, but they are also artificial devices that may fail for several causes. Endoscopic third ventriculostomy is an alternative surgical procedure that creates a bypass for the cerebrospinal fluid in the head that eliminates the need for a shunt. Procedure:

In ETV, endoscope and fine instruments are used to create a micro-hole in the ventricular system of the brain that helps in the drainage of CSF in the brain it self, thus reducing pressure on the brain and avoiding shunt.
