Spine Fracture:
Minor spine fractures may be treated with rest and medicine, but more severe fractures may need surgery to realign the bones. Spinal fractures, if left untreated, may result in irreversible spinal cord injury, nerve loss, and paralysis.
Procedure:
Under X-ray guidance, a tube is inserted into the spinal column, followed by an inflatable bone tamp. In the rear, a small incision is created. The tamp returns the vertebral body to its average height once inflated while also generating a hollow that may be filled with bone cement. The cement fills up fissures and voids in the spine, preventing it from collapsing again.
Complications:
- Thrombosis of the pelvis and legs
- Immobility
- A blood clot in the lungs is known as a pulmonary embolism.
- Pneumonia
Time To Recover:
A spinal fracture might take anywhere from six to twelve weeks to heal. The spinal bones do not return to their original form throughout the healing process. In their new compacted form, they heal. This might result in a loss of height and a curvature of the spine.
